Favre goes under the knife

Brett Favre took the next big step in his return to the Minnesota Vikings for a 20th season.

You know, the return that hasn’t been announced yet and still might not be announced for a few weeks.

He went under the knife today in Gulf Breeze, Fla. ESPN has reported that Dr. James Andrews performed a procedure on the injured left ankle, the one that needed to be patched up for Favre to make a return to the Vikings for a second season after falling one game short of reaching the Super Bowl.

Andrews reportedly cleaned up some scar tissue and “other elements of the joint” to give Favre a better range of motion. It’s believed he will need four to six weeks to rehabilitate putting him on time for the start of training camp. Of course, maybe Favre will pass on the time in scenic Mankato, Minn., and wait to report to the Vikings. Who knows?

This is the third surgery Favre has had on his left ankle.
