Favre's ankle rates a mention on injury report

We’re getting closer to kickoff of the 2010 season because the NFL has released the first injury report of the season.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre is on the initial report with his ankle issue, but he had full participation in practice today and will be starting Thursday night in the New Orleans Superdome in a rematch of the NFC Championship Game. Of course, Favre has been the subject of funny business when it comes to the injury report before. The New York Jets got in substantial trouble when it was determined they should have been listing Favre on the injury report during much of the 2008 season.

There has been some speculation about the health of Saints middle linebacker Jonathan Vilma. He’s got a groin injury that one source described as relatively serious, but he’s expected to play. Vilma traveled to Philadelphia last week to be examined by Dr. William Meyers, the surgeon who operated on Vilma for a sports hernia in the summer of 2009.

Vilma does not need surgery this time around, but the injury is going to hinder him.
