Finance committee gives Stan Kroenke unanimous support
It appears that Stan Kroenke has cleared the last major hurdle in his efforts to take over sole control of the St. Louis Rams.
According to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Kroenke was granted unanimous approval from the NFL’s finance committee for his bid to purchase the Rams from the family of late owner Georgia Frontier.
Kroenke still needs a full vote by the league’s owners, but the with the green light from the finance committee, that could be a mere formality at this juncture. The finance committee will provide a report at the special NFL meeting in Atlanta on Wednesday.
Kroenke owns 40 percent of the team and decided to match an offer made by Illinois businessman Shahid Khan. One complication was the NFL’s cross-ownership rules which prevent him from also owning the NBA’s Denver Nuggets and the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche. It has been reported he will likely sell those franchises to family members.
