Finnegan agent: I can't negotiate with myself

The Tennessee Titans and agent Terry Watson, who represents Cortland Finnegan, spoke briefly on the phone late last week but no offers or proposals were exchanged - just the promise to meet this weekend at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

Finnegan's agent said it is time the Titans put together some sort of counter proposal to Finnegan, telling TitanInsider, “I can't negotiate with myself. The Titans are going to to put some numbers together in a counter proposal.”

Finnegan is believed to be seeking a deal that would pay him an average of somewhere between $9.5-$11 million per season. The Titans last offer was a $28 million, four-year package back in August. Finnegan's camp countered with an offer somewhere around $50 million total, leaving the two sides far apart.

If Finnegan escapes to the open market, the Lions, Rams and Cowboys are among the cornerback-needy teams that could pursue him. Tennessee could use the franchise tag, but appears to be leaning away from that right now.
