Former Chargers defensive back Paul Oliver found dead

Former Chargers defensive back Paul Oliver was found dead at the age of 29, according the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The newspaper reported that the cause of death is suicide.

“Everyone in the Chargers family is sad today after hearing the news about Paul," the Chargers said in a statement. ""He was part of our family for five years. At just 29 years old, he still had a lifetime in front of him. Right now all of our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this most difficult time.

The Chargers selected Oliver in the fourth round of the 2007 supplemental draft. He played five seasons for the Chargers, making his NFL debut in 2008.

"We appreciate all the thoughts and prayers," Oliver's family said in a statement. "We request privacy in the wake of this tragic loss."

Oliver played college football at the University of Georgia, where he was a standout from 2004-2006. Richt reacted to the news during his Wednesday media avvailability..

“I was crushed this morning when I heard it, quite frankly,” Richt said, via ESPN. “I haven't been able to keep it off my mind.”
