Former Hokies in the Combine
Three Hokies visited Indianapolis for the NFL Combine. Here is a look at their results and their prospects moving forward.
Kyshoen Jarrett, SS
Jarrett is the kind of safety that is excellent in run support. He is build somewhat like a linebacker and showed it at the NFL Combine. He showed excellent strength in the bench with 21 reps, and exhibited his quickness with a 6.95 second 3-cone drill. Jarrett was not a top performer in the speed tests with only a 4.57 second forty yard dash time. He wasn't a top player at Virginia Tech because of his speed but because of his football intelligence. Jarrett is in the top 8 strong safety in the draft and could be picked in the later rounds.
Detrick Bonner, FS
Bonner only participated in the bench press at the NFL Combine. He put up a meager 15 reps and did not participate any further in the event. Bonner will have to prove himself at the Virginia Tech pro days sometime in March. He will likely go undrafted, but we have seen Hokies go undrafted in the past and make impacts in the NFL.
Laurence Gibson, OT
Gibson absolutely crushed the NFL Combine. He was ranked first for broad and high jumps and finished as a top tier performer in every other category. He impressed many people by his athleticism and his 5.04 second 40 yard time. He made some serious noise in Indianapolis, but this wont mean he will now get drafted. Gibson put himself on the radar for many NFL scout with his impressive combine results. He could land a late pick in the NFL draft in April.
