Former NFL safety arrested for arson

Former San Diego Chargers and Seattle Seahawks safety Kevin Ellison said that God told him to set fire to the bed in his apartment with a marijuana blunt, according to the Spokane Spokesman-Review.

Ellison leaped from his burning third-floor apartment and was treated at a local hospital for smoke inhalation before his arrest. He originally said he was smoking in bed when the blaze started, but was later charged with arson and indicated that God had told him to set fire to the bed.

Ellison was a sixth-round pick of the Chargers in 2009 and was released by the team shortly after police found 100 Vicodin tablets in his vehicle without a prescription in May 2010. He later signed with the Seahawks, but was released prior to the start of the 2010 season.

Ellison now plays for the Spokane Shock of the Arena Football League. He is being held without bond and was suspended by the league.
