Former NFL star Chuck Muncie dies
Former NFL star running back Chuck Muncie has died of a heart attack, multiple outlets reported Tuesday. He was 60.
Muncie, whose career was plagued by drug abuse, nevertheless was a standout running back for both the New Orleans Saints, where he began his career and the San Diego Chargers, where he was part of the famed "Air Coryell" offense that produced loads of points and plenty of wins in the 1980s.
Muncie played in four Pro Bowls, two each with the Saints and Chargers. His career ended after he was suspended in 1984 by Commissioner Pete Rozelle for a positive cocaine test. A comeback with the Minnesota Vikings was unsucessful.
Later in 1989, he was arrested for selling drugs and served a year and a half in prison, but after his release managed to get his life in order.
