Foul play ruled out in death of Joe Philbin's son

Police in Oshkosh, Wis., say initial autopsy reports indicate the son of Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin drown in the Fox Rivers early Sunday.

According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, foul play has been ruled out in the death of 21-year-old Michael Philbin, who fell through the ice nearly 30 yards offshore. Police are working to put together a timeline of his final hours and determine what he was doing on the ice. Toxicology reports will not be available for several weeks.

Joe Philbin released a statement through the Packers on Tuesday. He thanked local rescue crews.

“We love Michael so much and will miss him dearly. He loved his family, friends and life,” Philbin said in the statement. “His memory will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew him. We are appreciative of the prayers and the support of our family, friends and the Packers family. We ask for continued respect and privacy for our family as we deal with our loss.”
