Gabbert, Lombardi squabble still bubbling
Last December, Michael Lombardi of NFL.com was critical of the way Jacksonville Jaguars rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert was playing, and said so.
Among Lombardi's criticisms of Gabbert were remarks that he "looked scared" and that the game appeared "too big for him."
To Gabbert, those apparently were fighting words, because earlier this week, Gabbert fired back, asking "Who's Michael Lombardi?" in an interview.
Now, Lombardi has come back with an open letter to Gabbert, in which he tells the quarterback that he needs to have thicker skin when it comes to the criticism. Lombardi also points out that Gabbert has to determine where he goes from his abysmal rookie campaign, noting that both Hall of Famer Troy Aikman and first-round washout Tim Couch were bad as rookies.
It will be interesting to see if this escalates any more between Gabbert and Lombardi, or if Lombardi's latest explanation will be the end of the mini-feud.
