Gabbert's progress slower than expected
While Andy Dalton has the Cincinnati Bengals winning and Cam Newton is lighting up the stat sheet in Carolina, it has been a slow go for Jacksonville Jaguars rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert thus far.
Gabbert has hit on just 79 of 173 passes (45.7 percent) for 907 yards. The good news is that he has five TD passes to four interceptions, but the Jaguars are last in the NFL in passing offense, and offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter told the Associated Press that Gabbert has to improve.
"Well, it starts with the quarterback," Koetter said. "We've got to get Blaine to have confidence in his footwork and his fundamentals."
Gabbert and the Jaguars believe the rookie will improve with experience. At least they hope so.
"I've got to eliminate some of the ups and downs, and that will come with experience," Gabbert said. "We've got to win games and everything will be better."
