Garrard will have back surgery, out of Raiders' plans
His agent said it was 'highly possible" that David Garrard would work out for the Oakland Raiders, but that he was waiting to hear from Garrard this afternoon before proceeding.
According to Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com, that wait was bad news, as Garrard will have to have back surgery to repair a herniated disc. Garrard's agent, Al Irby, has since confirmed the report that the free agent quarterback will need surgery.
Garrard was one of four quarterbacks who had been possibilities for the Raiders, who lost Jason Campbell to a broken collarbone on Sunday. According to various reports, the Raiders' other possibilities included trading for the "retired" Carson Palmer or Kyle Orton or signing Josh McCown.
