Garrard's roster spot in jeopardy?

About three weeks ago, David Garrard looked to be the starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins.

Now, the Miami Herald is questioning whether the veteran quarterback will even be on the team's 53-man roster, which has to be solved by Friday.

Garrard suffered a knee injury on Aug. 9 at home while playing with his son. He had to have surgery two days later, and his recovery has been slow. With Garrard owed $2.25 million and likely being third on the depth chart right now, the Dolphins might decide the veteran is a luxury they cannot afford.

Rookie Ryan Tannehill will start for the Dolphins, beating out last year's starting QB Matt Moore with Garrard out of the mix because of his injury.

Garrard, who was out of football last year due to a back injury following his release in Jacksonville took a philosophical approach.

“Life sometimes is going to throw you lightning bolts, and you’ve got to be able to fight through them and bounce back from it,” Garrard said. “That’s all I can do. It’s unfortunate, but there’s worse things going on in this world than just me and my knee.”
