Geno Smith benched after three picks in first quarter
Geno Smith had 15 minutes of football to forget.
In the first quarter, the Jets' second-year quarterback threw three interceptions, which prompted coach Rex Ryan to relegate him to the bench for veteran Michael Vick. Smith threw three picks to Buffalo defenders while only completing two passes to Jets receivers.
After the game, Ryan expressed confidence in his quarterback, for one reason or the other.
"I believe this young man has the ability ... time will tell," Ryan said, via the New York Daily News.
The Jets lost to the Bills 43-23 and Vick didn't exactly fare too well either. He went 18-36 for 153 yards and an interception. He did add 69 rushing yards on eight carries.
There's no reason for Smith to be the Jets' starter for the remainder of the season. Perhaps Smith can put it together and become a capable quarterback down the road. But he wasn't ready last year and certainly isn't in year two either.
