Giants bracing for another team to come for Victor Cruz

New York Giants owner Steve Tisch is bracing for another team to come after wide receiver Victor Cruz.

He believes it’s going to happen and it could wind up costing his club a lot of money.

Who knows? Maybe another team could do the Giants a favor and write a multi-year offer sheet for Cruz that New York could then match. That would eliminate the back-and-forth needed to get a deal done, something the Giants have not yet been able to accomplish with Cruz.

Tisch, the co-owner, told reporters at the NFL owners meeting that he believe Cruz will command more than the $6 million per year that Wes Welker received from the Denver Broncos last week.

I think Victor is going to get a little higher than that,” Tisch said, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.

Tisch called it “it’s possible, maybe even probable” that another team will be willing to sign Cruz to a deal and part with a first-round draft pick in exchange. The tender Cruz has is worth $2.879 million this season and he recently hired powerful agent Tom Condon to represent him.

“The situation is he’s a very desirable athlete,” Tisch said. “I’d love him to be a Giant. I’d love him to be a lifer as a Giant.”
