Giants bring back DT Shaun Rogers
The New York Giants are going to give Shaun Rogers another shot, re-signing the defensive tackle on the day that defensive end Osi Umenyiora’s contract voided.
Rogers signed with the club last spring but wound up sitting out the season after suffering a blood clot in his leg during the club’s stay in training camp, according to Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger. The run stuffer could figure in the team’s plans for 2013 as a situational contributor. He comes on board a day after the club cut ties with defensive tackle Chris Canty, a move that cleared about $6.5 million in salary cap space.
Umenyiora made only six sacks in 2012 but will surely attract some interest on the open market for a team looking to ramp up its pass rush. He will not be free to sign until the free agency period opens March 12.
It will be interesting to see what moves continue to happen for the Giants after they were woeful on defense in 2012.
