Giants defensive backs have to pay up for illegal hits
The New York Giants’ season-opening loss at Washington became more costly for a pair of defensive backs.
Antrel Rolle was fined $20,000 by the NFL and Kenny Phillips was fined $10,000 for illegal hits on Redskins tight end Fred Davis, according to ESPN New York.
Rolle was penalized for spearing an opponent, and he was called for unnecessary roughness on the play. Phillips’ fine was the result of a blow to the head/neck area. Per the report, Phillips intends to appeal his fine.
The NFL is vigilant about hits to the head and players know they’re going to be responsible if they make a mistake.
