Giants exploring options if Umenyiora leaves?

The New York Giants have reportedly taken Osi Umenyiora off of the trade market.

But that hasn’t stopped the club from kicking the tires on another veteran.

According to Ohm Youngmisuk, the club worked out Andre Carter on Tuesday. Carter isn’t nearly in the same realm as Umenyiora as a pass rusher at this point in his career, but he’s been a dependable two-way end for quite some time and was a favorite of Greg Blache with the Washington Redskins.

Carter played in all 16 games for the past five seasons for the Redskins and the 32-year-old is two years removed from an 11-sack season.

Maybe the Giants just want to know what is out there in the event they do trade Umenyiora. Just because he’s “off the market” doesn’t mean the team isn’t shopping him.
