Giants hoping to have Umenyiora at practice this week
The New York Giants are aiming to have defensive end Osi Umenyiora back on the practice field this week but whether or not he’s ready in time for Sunday’s NFC East showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles remains to be seen.
Umenyiora has been sidelined since last month when he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery after participating in just a few days of training camp. He participated just a little in practice last week.
"We certainly hope Osi will be ready to go," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said on a conference call Monday, according to Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger. "We hope to have him on the practice field. (Wednesday's) really not going to be a full-speed practice so it'll be Thursday before that takes place. But hopefully Thursday Osi will be ready to practice.
"If there's not any type of setback, I would expect that."
The Giants’ defensive line looked solid against the St. Louis Rams on Monday night. Maybe Umenyiora joins the mix in a limited basis this week. Or the club could opt to wait until Week 4 when it meets the Arizona Cardinals.
