Giants meet with reps for Brandon Jacobs

Brandon Jacobs has said repeatedly he would like to return to the New York Giants this coming season.

The team has made it clear it would like Jacobs back.

We’ve heard it plenty of times. Now, the question is at what price? According to Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger, the club met with representatives for Jacobs at the NFL Scouting Combine but at this point there is no indication a deal is near.

Jacobs is scheduled to earn $4.4 million in 2012 with a $500,000 roster bonus due next month. That figure of $4.9 million will have to be whittled down substantially for Jacobs to keep his place. He is a part-time back and rushed for 571 yards last season. He can’t justify earning anywhere near $4.9 million.

The Giants are in a challenging position when it comes to the salary cap. We’ll see if the sides can work something out here. Jacobs might really have to want to stick with the Giants to get a deal done.
