Giants moving on from Lawrence Tynes

Lawrence Tynes probably departs as the greatest clutch kicker in the history of the New York Giants.

After all, he kicked the Giants to two Super Bowls with overtime winners in NFC Championship Games. Both times the team went on to win the Super Bowl. Now, he’s been kicked aside as the club signed free agent Josh Brown on Wednesday after adding David Buehler last month.

Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports Tynes’ price was too high and so the club has moved on.

Brown, a 10-year veteran of the Seahawks, Rams and Bengals, was out of football last season until Cincinnati picked him up in December. He had lost a camp battle to Nick Folk with the New York Jets.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Brown and Buehler. Kickers are punters are probably the most replaceable parts on NFL rosters. But when something goes wrong, especially in crunch time, finger pointing can start in a hurry.
