Giants QB Curtis Painter had arthroscopic knee surgery

On the same day the the New York Giants signed quarterback Rusty Smith, they announced that reserve quarterback Curtis Painter had arthroscopic knee surgery and will be out for a month.

The Giants have Eli Manning, who's coming back from ankle surgery, under contract as well as Josh Freeman, Ryan Nassib and Smith.

Painter has previous stints with the Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens.

A sixth-round pick of the Colts in 2009, Painter has completed 140 of 271 passes in his career for 1,624 yards, six touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
