Giants reportedly make token offer to Osi Umenyiora

The New York Giants have reportedly made a token offer to bump up the salary of disgruntled defensive end Osi Umenyiora.

According to Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network, the offer would range between $400,000 and $1 million in new money based on production. With Umenyiora clamoring for a new deal, it’s difficult to imagine such a small amount would do anything to resolve the matter.

At this point, it appears the only way he will receive the new contract he is seeking is to be traded, and the Giants have tapped the brakes on that possibility after it became clear they probably would not land a first-round draft pick in return.

The belief is that Umenyiora will return to practice Monday for the first time since training camp opened. He visited a knee specialist in Atlanta and was informed he doesn’t need surgery. Umenyiora has two years remaining on his current contract and will earn less than $8 million total.
