Giants will close their weight room to players Wednesday
Chris Canty and his New York Giants teammates are welcome at the team’s facilities Wednesday.
They just can’t hit the weights and work out.
It seems that Canty, the Giants defensive lineman, stands alone as the only player in the NFL who worked out at a team facility today. Quickly, the Giants have reversed field and will not allow players to work out as the details of the labor front are worked out, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.
Canty praised the club and joked that is one reason why the Giants are better than the Jets. Now, Vacchiano reports players can show up but they can only speak with coaches and team officials “socially.” That means no business talk.
“We have decided that our workout and training rooms will be closed,” team spokesman Pat Hanlon said, per the report, “Until we get clarification from the pending challenges to the court's decision.”
Chicago Bears kicker Robbie Gould said that some teams, to close their weight rooms, gave strenth coaches and trainers the day off Wednesday. The Bears were not one of those teams, but they kept their locker room locked and did not allow players to work out.
“I am sure that goes against (Judge Susan Richard Nelson’s) decision and how she made her decision,” Gould said.
Maybe we’ll learn more through the courts on Wednesday.
