Giants without Nicks, Smith at least one more week
The New York Giants pulled off a gutsy victory Sunday over the Jacksonville Jaguars to remain in a tie with the Philadelphia Eagles atop the NFC East at 7-4.
Help isn’t arriving just yet, though. The banged-up Giants’ offense figures to be shorthanded again Sunday when New York hosts the Washington Redskins at New Meadowlands Stadium. According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, wide receiver Hakeem Nicks, who is out after surgery to repair compartment syndrome, will be sidelined another two weeks.
Fellow wide receiver Steve Smith figures to miss one more game as Vacchiano reports Smith is targeting a Dec. 12 return at Minnesota. He’s been sidelined with a partially torn pectoral muscle. The offensive line has been beat up too, and the Giants are just hoping to stay in the race while they mend. They host the Eagles Dec. 19 and then have a big game at Green Bay Dec. 26, but it will be big only if they’re in the thick of the race.
