GM Jerry Angelo will not return to Bears
It looked like the future of Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz was the only one to consider when thinking about significant change at Halas Hall.
That changed this morning, though, as news broke Jerry Angelo will not return as the club’s general manager. Angelo, who had a contract through 2013, is out and that development fuels speculation about head coach Lovie Smith.
Angelo presided over the Bears for 11 seasons and the club won four division crowns and reached Super Bowl XLI. But consistently poor draft classes harmed the franchise and now after the club bottomed out following a 7-3 start to this season, there will be a makeover.
The question is whether or not this impacts Smith, who signed a contract extension through 2012 last February. A new general manager could want to bring with him a new coach. Stay tuned.
