Hakeem Nicks confident he will play Monday night

The New York Giants could use some good injury news for a change, and it appears they have some.

Wide receiver Hakeem Nicks, who suffered a bruised and hyperextended left knee in the team’s season-opening loss at Washington last Sunday, says he will be good to go Monday night when the Giants host the St. Louis Rams in prime time. He tested his injury in practice on Friday.

I'll be out there Monday," Nicks said, according to Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin was a little more measured in his comments about the situation and said ultimately it comes down to what the team’s doctors recommend. Nicks did not participate in team drills Friday.

"The swelling is gone, the pain ain't really there anymore," he said, "I think I'll be all right."

The Giants’ offense was a mess against the Redskins and they abandoned the run while quarterback Eli Manning didn’t get a lot done. The Rams will have some moving parts in their secondary as they lost cornerback Ron Bartell last week to a broken neck.
