Haley pondered resigning last week

Todd Haley, fired by the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday, had considered resigning as the team's head coach last week, according to Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star.

There were indications that Haley and general manager Scott Pioli had been at odds for much of the season, even to the point where Haley flew in the face of the organization's clean-cut image, according to Babb.

Babb writes, "Haley was gruff and occasionally harsh to players, and he began distancing himself this season from the organization's clean-cut approach. He began growing a thick beard after the Chiefs’ third contest, an encouraging loss at San Diego, and wore well-used clothing to games and news conferences."

So if Haley was trying to work his way out of the Chiefs' organization, he succeeded on Monday.
