Hard-luck Thomas Davis suffers 3rd torn ACL
The Carolina Panthers have been hit with more devastating news at the linebacker position.
A week after losing Jon Beason for the season with a torn Achilles tendon, Thomas Davis is now out. The hard-luck Davis has torn the ACL in his right knee for the third time in less than two years.
Davis popped the news on his personal Twitter account and the team confirmed it, according to Steve Reed of the Gaston Gazette. This could put the Panthers in the market for help at the position.
“I would like 2 take the time and thank every1 that has supported me over my career,” Davis wrote on his Twitter account. “Unfortunately, I have re torn my acl. Thx 4 da prayers!!”
Davis received a $35.5 million contract extension after the NFL’s lockout ended, but per the report only $8 million of that contract was guaranteed giving the club some protection against what has just happened.
Davis was injured in the third quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Green Bay Packers. Omar Gaither will likely assume his position in the starting lineup.
