Hasselbeck: Manning pursuit out of my control
Tennessee Titans quarterback Matt Hasselbeck can't avoid but hear some of the hoopla that has surrounded his team's pursuit of Peyton Manning.
But Hasselbeck is doing his best to take the high road in the matter, regardless of the outcome of the Manning saga.
“It's out of my control,” Hasselbeck said. “I've talked to pretty much everybody over there. I've talked to Munch (Mike Munchak) and Mike Reinfeldt and Ruston Webster, Chris Palmer, and really everybody over there. The one person I haven't talked to is Bud Adams.
“We've talked and they've been great from day one since I've been here and just being up frotn with me from the get-go. They always have been, whether it was when I was deciding to come here last year or with Jake (Locker). I just know what they've told me and I'm very, very comfortable with that. I guess I'll keep the conversations we've had between us, and it's been good. I talked to Munch and I'm comfortable.”
Hasselbeck, who said he has also been in contact with Locker during this time, said there were too many hypotheticals involved for him to comment on whether he would ask for a trade or his release if Manning indeed comes to the Titans. Hasselbeck would count $4 million in dead money for a prorated bonus over the final two years of his deal.
Whatever happens, it is clear that Hasselbeck is taking the high road as the Titans go after Manning.
