Haynesworth not benched, just not in rotation

New England Patriots defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth did not return to Sunday's 24-20 loss to the New York Giants after blowing an assignment that led to a touchdown run by Brandon Jacobs.

According to the Boston Herald, Patriots coach Bill Belichick said the reason Haynesworth did not return to the game wasn't that he had been benched after an animated sideline discussion with New England defensive line coach Pepper Johnson, but that it was simply a rotation.

“We had a lot of defensive linemen active, so they played in different rotations,” Belichick said. “Vince (Wilfork) is a guy, obviously, we don’t want off the field, and they can’t all play. One guy plays for a while, somebody else plays, then. ... It was rotation-related."
