Haynesworth was 'sleeping' in Washington

Albert Haynesworth is loose and relaxed these days as a New England Patriot.

He was holding court with the Boston media and told them that it was time for "the sleeping giant to awake," according to the Boston Herald.

Haynesworth appears comfortable in his new surroundings and his new defensive scheme in New England after spending his two years in Washington struggling and last year engage in a public feud with Coach Mike Shanahan.

Unlike last year, when he failed a conditioning test, was relegated to a limited role in the Skins' 3-4 system and he and Shanahan barely tolerated each other on the best of days, Haynesworth says he is happy and motivated to play football again now that he has landed with the Patriots.

“If you go to work hating your job, you’re not going to perform at your best,” Haynesworth said. “And if you enjoy coming to work and you enjoy being around the people that you work with, you give it your all. I didn’t do much in D.C. Scheme didn’t fit me. Now, I can go back to what I used to do.”

If that means playing anywhere near the level of his final two years in Tennessee, then the Patriots might have made yet another steal of a trade.

Especially if it works, then somewhere in this move, some credit for bringing Haynesworth to the Patriots probably should go to Patriots senior advisor Floyd Reese, who made the call to draft Haynesworth with the Titans back in 2002 when he was GM in Tennessee.
