Haynesworth will be on the treadmill again today

Apparently, Albert Haynesworth will be spending some more time on the treadmill today.

The defensive tackle has failed his conditioning test for the second straight day for coach Mike Shanahan, according to Rick Maese of the Washington Post. That means the team will practice again today without the $100 million man, or the man who has already been paid more than $32 million by owner Daniel Snyder.

Shanahan has stated that the test is necessary to ensure that Haynesworth is healthy enough to participate in camp and not injure himself.

“It's a very fair test. But more importantly, it keeps a guy from getting hurt,” Shanahan said Thursday. “I don't want to put a guy out there that's not ready to go and all of the sudden, there's a setback for two weeks. It just doesn't make sense. Albert's got a lot of ability. We get him in great football shape, he can help us. But I'm not going to put him out there until he's in that kind of shape.”

Haynesworth is the only player on the team that has been required to take the test because he was the only player who was not present during the offseason program. Matt Bowen of the National Football Post talks about the differences he experienced in conditioning drills as a player in the NFL. It wasn’t fun. Our hunch was the test was designed for Haynesworth – or anyone else – to fail. We expected perhaps that Haynesworth would be passed, maybe even with flying colors, today. That didn’t happen. He reportedly looks to be in good shape and we know that his personal trainer publicly stated that Haynesworth dropped considerable weight in the offseason.

Who knows what direction this heads in now, but all of the power resides with Shanahan. Maybe the coach wants to have Haynesworth sweat it out one day for each day of the mandatory minicamp that he skipped. Eventually, the Redskins need to get him on the practice field with his teammates. Hopefully, he’s worked in the locker room to mend some fences. Stay tuned. Shanahan should be interesting later today.
