Head-butting stunt draws $15,000 fine for Red Bryant
Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Red Bryant was fined $15,000 by the NFL for head-butting Cleveland Browns tight end Alex Smith.
The hefty fine reported by Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer was certain to come. Bryant drew a 15-year penalty for unnecessary roughness and was ejected from the game.
The play occurred late in the fourth quarter and helped the Browns convert a failed third down. The Seahawks lost the game 6-3. Afterward, Bryant said his stupid play was the result of cheap shots by the Browns earlier in the game that went uncalled. He did block two field goal tries by Phil Dawson in the game.
