Henne can keep starting job for 2013

Chad Henne's opportunity to supplant Blaine Gabbert as the Jacksonville Jaguars starting quarterback for 2013 is there for the taking, says Coach Mike Mularkey.

Asked if Henne played well over the season's final six games, if he would enter 2013 as Jacksonville's starting quarterback, Mularkey bit on the hypothetical, something many coaches avoid doing.

"When the season was over with, I would probably say yes based on finishing the year that way," Mularkey said.

Henne came in early against Houston last week and nearly led the Jaguars to an upset before they eventually fell 43-37 in overtime.

Mularkey tempered the thought of benching the 2011 first-round pick, who has not progressed to expeectations, though by adding that every player's job is on the line each week.

"Every player does. Every game they play, they have a chance to etiher keep their job or earn their job, every play," Mularkey said.

Still, even with that, it provides a barometer of exactly where the Jaguars feel Gabbert is in his development. And that is behind, especially given that all the other QBs in his draft class are enjoying varied but higher degrees of success than Gabbert thus far.
