Henne headed out Dolphins' door

It's not surprising that the new regime in Miami has turned the page on quarterback Chad Henne, and will pursue a potential upgrade in free agency or the draft.

But the Dolphins are further emphasizing that it is a new day on South Beach in that Henne won't receive any sort of offer from the team, even to return in backup role. Henne, a one-time second-round pick of the Dolphins, will become an unrestricted free agent on March 13, says the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Henne had just 31 TD passes to 37 interceptions in his Dolphins career that produced a 13-18 overall record. His backup Matt Moore actually breathed some life into the offense in 2011 after Henne was lost for the season with a shoulder injury.

"Chad has done what we’ve asked him to do. I like Chad personally very well. He’s very smart. Very intelligent. Very tough. A football guy. He loves being around the game and is a very good teammate,” Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland said .“But this football team didn’t win enough games when he was quarterback here. But that doesn’t mean he did everything wrong, or right,” Ireland said of Henne, who produced a 13-18 record as a starter for Miami. ”If he goes somewhere else, Chad’s a good football player. He can play in this league.”

Some team needing a decent backup will take a flier on Henne, who could probably use a fresh start elsewhere.
