Holmgren 'day to day' regarding when he exits

Cleveland Browns president Mike Holmgren, who is "retiring" as Jimmy Haslam's ownership group takes over the Cleveland Browns was asked Tuesday if he would stay and finish out a lame duck season with the club.

Joe Banner is coming in to run the Browns, and Holmgren is moving aside as part of the transition. He said he still wants to feel if he is making a contribution if he stays till the end of the year.

"When Jimmy and I have talked about this, we talked about a transition period. How that actually sorts itself out moving forward I can’t define it so much right now," Holmgren said. "I want to feel like I’m contributing. My emphasis is going to be in the football side of it. I don’t have to do the business stuff anymore. If I can help one player be a little better this season or one coach be a little better with some of the things that I know how to do and I feel like I’m contributing, then that could happen. We’re just going to take it a day at a time and see how it goes.”
