How much is Gabbert improving?

With Maurice Jones-Drew holding out and Justin Blackmon still unsigned, even more of the focus at Jacksonville Jaguars camp is going to be on second-year quarterback Blaine Gabbert.

Gabbert struggled mightily last year with his pocket presence and decision-making, so Jaguars coaches, players and fans would like to see a big step forward for the former Missouri star in year two.

Whether that is happening the way it needs to apparently is open for interpretation. Vito Stellino, the venerable scribe from the Florida Times-Union tweets that Gabbert was struggling in Monday's practice session. He noted that Gabbert hit guys in the wrong color jersey three times in a two-minute drill with one pick and two drops.

Still, John Oehser of Jaguars.com tweets that offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski says Gabbert is the team's most improved offensive player (maybe because he had the furthest to go?) and that his footwork has gotten much better.

In fairness, Gabbert does need MJD back and needs reps with Blackmon, a potential difference-maker at wide receiver for the Jags. Until then, the jury remains out on just how high the ceiling is for Blaine Gabbert.
