Howard Mudd to retire again

With the season spinning out of control and massive turnover expected with the Philadelphia Eagles at the end of the year, it does not come as a surprise that veteran offensive line coach Howard Mudd will be headed back into retirement.

Paul Domowitch of the Philadelphia Daily News reports that if Eagles head coach Andy Reid lands a job elsewhere – or shockingly keeps his job in Philly – he will have to find a new line coach. The 71-year-old Mudd, lured out of retirement after Reid moved his previous line coach Juan Castillo to defensive coordinator, is going back into retirement.

I decided quite a while ago,” Mudd told Domowitch. “I gotta go be a grandpa. That was the plan two years ago and Andy talked me out of it. But this time, it’s going to be permanent.
“I told my wife last night, I really like coaching. But it’s time.”

Mudd has coached in the NFL for 37 seasons and was with the Indianapolis Colts for 12 seasons before originally retiring after the 2009 season.
