In spiraling Rams' season, Brandstater could be next QB
In what some expect will be the final month for Steve Spagnuolo as coach of the St. Louis Rams, things have gotten plenty ugly.
The Rams could be forced to turn to Tom Brandstater at quarterback this week when they face the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night.
Sam Bradford’s injured ankle continues to be a problem and backup A.J. Feeley suffered a fracture in his right thumb, putting the Rams in a tough spot. The Rams don’t know what Feeley’s status is yet and they are taking a wait-and-see approach with Bradford. They probably will not know until the end of the week what their situation is. If the veterans don’t heal up, yep, it would be Brandstater.
"Well, he would have to be the guy," Spagnuolo said, according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "The good thing is, we had him here a good month period, so the system's not new to him. Last week he was in there, really with the practice squad reps, so he's kind of got the juices flowing again. But he'd be the guy we'd have to go with, yeah."
Brandstater spent time in Denver when Rams head coach Josh McDaniels was the head coach there. He has familiarity with the offense. But the Rams don’t want to have to turn to him.
