Injuries continuing to pile up for Packers' offense

The Green Bay Packers may choose to proceed with caution with wide receiver Jordy Nelson after he pulled a hamstring in practice on Wednesday.

That is because Greg Jennings tried to come back too soon from what has been called a groin muscle injury and now he’s headed for abdomen surgery on Tuesday with a goal of returning to action in a few weeks, perhaps in mid-November.

Nelson was injured Wednesday and sat out Thursday’s practice. He will also not practice today, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, putting his status for Sunday’s meeting with the Jacksonville Jaguars at Lambeau Field in question.

This is really the first time Jordy has dealt with a hamstring," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said, according to the report. "We will probably test him either Saturday or Sunday. (That's) what we're looking for."

In the event the Packers are without their top two wideouts – and Jennings is definitely not playing – that would force James Jones and up-and-coming Randall Cobb into the starting lineup. It would also lead to an expanded role for Donald Driver.

Silverstein speculates there is a possibility Jennings could be back on the field for the Nov. 18 game at Detroit but it all depends on how he feels coming out of the surgery.

“They give you certain time frames: one week, two weeks, three weeks, four weeks, whatever the case may be," Jennings said. "But at the end of the day, it's going to be determined (by) whether I feel good or not. But it's not season ending. Hopefully I can return before the season ends. We'll see."
