Injury has Mariani on the bubble with Titans
Marc Mariani is one of the feel-good comeback stories of 2013 after suffering a gruesome leg injury last year in preseason.
Mariani, a Pro Bowl return man as a rookie, managed to make it back onto the field for the preseason opener against the Washington Redskins, only to suffer a shoulder injury in that game that has put him back on the shelf and put his chances of making the Tennessee Titans' 53-man roster in jeopardy.
The Titans may have to make a hard decision on Mariani by Saturday as he is still at least a couple of weeks or more from being ready to play again. Meanwhile, Darius Reynaud has taken over the return role and excelled at times last year with three returns for touchdowns.
Mariani believes he is close to coming back, but it could be too late.
“They took another look yesterday. Things are going smoothly and healing up. I think the progress is really good and the reports show that,” Mariani told TitanInsider. “I'm still day-to-day, but I'm making huge progress, and I'm looking forward to every step. Hopefully, by the end of the week, I'll be close and back out and doing individuals next. Those are the plans. Right now, I'm just working hard and doing what they're telling me and really just trying to get back out there.”
