Irsay hints Manning could miss Colts opener

No, Peyton Manning under center in the opener for the Indianapolis Colts? We'll believe it when we see it, but Colts owner Jim Irsay is preparing Colts fans for the possibility of Manning's neck injury not being healed sufficiently to allow him to start.

Irsay, whose Twitter feed has broken its share of Colts' news items it seems in the past year or so (on a side note, can you imagine Al Davis, Bud Adams or Dan Rooney with a Twitter account?), hints that Manning might not make consecutive start No. 209 as scheduled when Indy opens the regular season in Houston.

“We r evaluating the QB sitch,#18 healing but we got 2 b prepared 4 early season possibility without him, defense has 2 pick it up,big time!” Irsay tweets.

The owner goes on to say that the Colts will not be taking Ohio State refugee Terrelle Pryor in the supplemental draft and asks fans to vote for what veteran quarterback would they like the Colts to sign for the interim.
Both Curtis Painter and Dan Orlovsky have to love that.

Again, knowing Manning and his competitiveness, the odds still favor him making the start against the Texans on Sept. 11. But Irsay has at least opened up the possibility to a different scenario.
