Irsay says Manning out for the season

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said Monday what most people had suspected and feared that quarterback Peyton Manning will be out for the entire 2011 season.

WISH-TV in Indianapolis said on its website that Irsay made the announcement at a breakfast for Super Bowl donors this morning.

Manning has been sidelined throughout preseason and the regular season thus far after having a surgical procedure performed on his neck, the third time in 19 months he has had that type of surgery.

Later, Irsay tweeted that it wasn't "FOR SURE" that Manning would be out for the entire year and that he had an outside chance of returning in December. The way the Colts' fortunes have been going with an 0-3 start and now a concussion to Kerry Collins, there might not be much for Manning to return to in December, even if he is able to return.
