Irsay: Talks with Manning already under way
Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay indicated on Thursday night to WISH-TV Channel 8 that he and quarterback Peyton Manning are already in negotiations regarding Manning's future with the team.
“We talk a lot … and it's probably not always what people think we might talk about,” Irsay said. “Very recently we got into a debate about - will Tiger Woods win more majors than Jack Nicklaus or not?”
Colts fans probably don't care much which one is in Jack's camp or Tiger's camp. Their minds are on the $28 million roster bonus Manning is due on March 8. Irsay has already opened the door to Manning staying with a restructured contract, but it remains to be seen if that will happen.
“We both know everyone has great interest on it. We’ll just keep talking. And certainly by that date we’ll come up with something that makes sense for him and for the Colts,” Irsay said. “I think we both understand each other’s issues. [We’re] not delaying it for any intentional reason. It’s not only a big decision, but it’s a complicated and tough decision.”
And one that the pro football world is awaiting.
