Is Schottenheimer on the hot seat with Jets?
At the start of the season, Rex Ryan made bold predictions of the New York Jets reaching the Super Bowl.
Heading into the final week, the Jets have the slimmest chance of the remaining contenders in the AFC to making the postseason, falling behind the Bengals, Raiders and Titans in the pecking order for the final wild-card spot.
Someone has to take the blame for the Jets' woes, and Brian Costello of the New York Post suggests it will be offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.
Quarterback Mark Sanchez, whose problems this season have been at the center of the offensive struggles in New York, says Schottenheimer is not to blame.
“When we got the ball back with five minutes left, people are saying, ‘Why don’t you run the ball? Why don’t you run the ball?’ ” Sanchez said. “It’s easy to say that now, but we had just driven the ball all the way down the field throwing the heck out of it. We were going with what was working. If you look back, who knows what could have happened if we kept running, but that’s not fair. That’s not fair to Schotty. I thought he called a great game. We just didn’t execute the plays that were called.”
