It’s a little difficult to get a handle on exactly what the Washington Redskins are going to do offensively this season.

They spent most of the first quarter last Saturday at Chicago working out of a three tight-end package, not exactly what you probably envisioned for Robert Griffin III as he transitions into the NFL.

Griffin is in a hyped matchup this weekend as the Redskins will host the Indianapolis Colts and Andrew Luck this Saturday at FedEx Field. It’s No. 1 in the draft vs. No. 2. Luck, the top pick, has been smoother in preseason to this point. While Griffin was solid in his debut at Buffalo, he looked out of sorts playing against the Bears. Overall, he has completed 9 of 14 passes for 119 yards, one score and he has fumbled twice.

“I definitely look forward to playing the guy throughout my career,” Griffin said this week, according to John Keim of CBS Sports. “I think it will be exciting matchups every time we face each other.”

One veteran scout said he believes when the regular season rolls around, the Redskins will look much like the Carolina Panthers did a year ago with Cam Newton. He predicts Washington will spread out defenses, rely heavily on shotgun formations and use a zone running scheme that will include zone reads for Griffin.

The question the scout has is can Griffin be effective? His height was questioned going into the NFL Scouting Combine where he measured 6-2. That is fine but Griffin often delivers the ball with a three-quarter angle that makes him shorter when he releases the football. Newton is 6-5.

“Griffin just looks small to me,” the scout said, “And I don’t know if he’s going to be able to see the field the way he needs to behind the linemen. We’ll see. I’m curious to see what they do with him.”
