It's a snap: More long snapper contract info
Upon further review, Chris Massey’s deal ranks in the “top four or five” for long snappers in the league, according to a league source.
We were remiss in omitting the contract Jon Condo signed with the Oakland Raiders earlier this week. Condo will earn $1.684 million this season per the qualifying offer he received as a restricted free agent. Hey, leave it to the Raiders to tender the long snapper at the second round level.
But, seriously, it points out the rising level of contracts for long snappers. Massey’s four-year contract is for $4.4 million with a $1.1 million average per year. San Francisco’s Brian Jennings and Cleveland’s Ryan Pontbriand each have deals that average just more than $1.1 million per year.
Like we said earlier, long snappers everywhere have reason to rejoice. Surely, they’ve noticed, and they had the numbers straight even if we left Condo off the list originally. One of the league’s longest-tenured and best long snappers will be a free agent after this season, Chicago’s Pat Mannelly.
