Jahvid Best planning to come off PUP list next month

Jahvid Best believes he will be promoted off the physically unable to perform list when he is eligible in October.

The Detroit Lions running back, who suffered two concussions last season, is sidelined on PUP to begin the season, meaning he is not eligible to practice. He is anxious to get back in the mix with his teammates after missing the second half of last season.

“Yes," Best said, according to Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press. "My mind frame hasn't changed since the beginning."

The earliest Best could be cleared for action would be the Oct. 22 game at Chicago. But the Lions could activate him for a three-week practice window after Week 6 before making a true determination on his availability for this season.

"Just let it play out," Best said. "There's no point of really stressing over it. There's nothing I can do about it now. Just let it play out. And when I get cleared, get back out there and do what I do best."

Of course, expectations are Best would be cleared for a comeback at the start of training camp. General manager Martin Mayhew even admitted he was a “little bit surprised” Best remained sidelined in August. Hopefully, doctors will determine Best is in good shape to resume his career.
