Jameis Winston Signs Rookie Contract One Day After Being Drafted
Less than 24 hours after becoming the face of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' franchise, Jameis Winston is already being compensated as such.
According to multiple reports and from Winston's words at an earlier press conference, the newest Buccaneer has already agreed to the terms of his rookie contract. Winston has agreed to a four-year deal, a contract with a mandatory fifth-year team-option, worth an estimated $25 million with a $16.7 million signing bonus.
All $25 million is fully guaranteed.
Winston will receive all of his signing bonus next March, with roster bonuses set for the next three seasons, starting in 2016.
In comparison to recent first-overall quarterbacks, Cam Newton agreed to a fully guaranteed $22 million contract in 2011, while Andrew Luck agreed to a very similar deal in 2012, though the other two quarterbacks agreed to their rookie deals later in the summer.
